My students need steam activities such as K’NEX, Engino Discovering STEM kits, Learning Resources Pendulonium Challenge, KEVA Wrecking Ball, STEM challenge cards, STEM toys and magnetic building blocks for our new STEAM/Genius Hour area.
Our school is located in a wonderful urban community and has about 500 students. We have a very diverse school, and many of my students come from low socioeconomic families where just providing pencils and paper is difficult. My students still walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.
I care so much about each and every one of these students in my school and want to see them succeed!

My Project
Students will have a dedicated space in our room to design, think, build and create all kinds of things. These STEAM activities will allow students to have hands-on experiences with science, math, engineering and the arts. My students are not able to have many STEAM experiences outside of school so this space will allow them to explore, create and practice valuable science and math skills. Students will see an increase in academic scores but also a love of all things STEAM!
These STEAM activities will guide student inquiry, dialogue and increase critical thinking skills.
For example, students will be able to build structures with magnetic building blocks or Creative Construction blocks and use the KEVA wrecking ball to knock them down. This allows students to learn about forces and motion through their own design, questioning, and reflection during the activity. The STEM challenge cards will allow students to build and create using everyday things in the classroom. Students will be able to build with the Engino STEM kits and Learninn Resources Pendulonium challenge with allow students to learn about science concepts such as momentum and levers. Students will be able to design and create a roller coaster with K’NEX. The great thing about STEAM activities is the students get to be creative and have fun too!
