Full STEAM Ahead! Fueling Careers in the Classroom.
My students need Makerspace supplies to fuel STEAM education in our classroom. They need inspiring books and how-to guides, Snap Circuits, and K-nex blocks.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Established in 1903, my students attend the oldest, continually operating elementary school in the state. Currently, a predominately African-American school, with students predominately from low socio-economic status; our school ranks among the lowest in the state for academic achievement levels.
The needs are great and the academic achievements needed are greater.
My students are in need of a cultural shift to academic excellence and a learner-centered environment that is suited to their individual needs.
Our school's motto is "Excellence in the Making". I plan to foster a community of learners in my classroom that are academically ready to meet the global challenges of our world.
My Project
Sparking a child's interest does not always happen inside of a book. Students need hands-on activities and learning experiences in the classroom. Building a cool, looping roller coaster from K-nex blocks, learning to power bots with snap circuits, and designing lever and pulley systems is just the beginning of the fun, engaging activities that I have planned for my classroom.
I am asking for the beginning works and tools of a Makerspace.
A place in the classroom where students are free to build, experiment, draw, and design projects. The STEAM classroom fuels careers in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths. Introducing students to the possibility of such careers at the elementary level is monumental to their later school decisions.
These materials will change the climate of my classroom and improve their learning by helping them to see the benefits of an education.
