Carlinville is a small town in southern Illinois with children that have diverse backgrounds. We have students from rural upbringing and students that live within city limits. About half of our school is made up of low income students, who face many challenges within their living and learning environment. In my class, I have students who live in a prosperous environment and those who live with grandparents because parents are unable to provide for them, to multiple families living together to try to make ends meet.
However, when I walk into my classroom; I see children that are creative, curious, and ready to learn.
They love to explore and experiment, they love inventing, and love bring their imaginations to life. Despite the challenges my students face, I want my students to have opportunities that may spark a career or just understand how the world around them works.
My Project
The Ipad and robotics materials will enhance STEAM curriculum within my 5th grade classroom. Students will be able to use the items to explore engineering, coding, and computer programming in the classroom.
My students will be able to lead their own education through inquiry-based learning.
Students will be able to collaborate at a team to explore, create and design the robotic in two different ways. Then they will be able to add the extension pieces to create even more. The students will then be able to use the Ipad to program and code the robot to complete tasks that only they can imagine. Putting the tools in the students hands is the first step to unlimited possibilities.
