Students in my school are extremely talented. In a single classroom, I have rappers who write and compose their own songs; I have poets that write words that will move you; I have artists who can remember characters from their favorite shows and recreate them by memory and I have singers and dancers who if given the opportunity to perform could bring an audience to their feet.
Despite their glowing academic and artisitc potential, these students are also facing several challenges both inside and outside the classroom.
Our school is a title I school. 97% of our students are on free and reduced lunch and many of them are raised in single parent households. For some students, school is their only safe haven. I want to make sure that these challenges do not deter our students from excelling and reaching their top potential
My students have the majority of their instruction take place with a projector. They will use this projector to view essential science content including videos and notes. Once they take their notes, to make sure they have studied the material, students are responsible for creating their own flashcards with their hole punched index cards and pencils.The lamination pouches will make sure that the documents they look at daily in class can be preserved. In my class, I focus on having my scientists create things whether that be projects or hypotheses or art. The art supplies will allow students to express themselves while they create their models. They will be able to use the markers and poster paper to make their ideas visible to the class and the paint, canvases and paper to add much needed creativity to otherwise dry assignments. Students feel invested in things that interest them. I know art interests them and I want to make sure they have the materials they need to try something new. That is why I need the tri-fold boards. Student will be completing a science project about their interests and the boards will help them display their scientific findings
