My Students

My students are all unique. They come from all different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. For a lot of them English is not their first language. Even more of them receive free and reduced lunch. A lot of them are from economically challenged parts of town. Despite where they come from or the challenges they have faced, they all come to school and make the best of their day.

My middle school students are fun, creative, hardworking kids that enjoy coming to class and getting to do things that are hands on.

They love the opportunity to take things and create something out of them. They surprise me everyday with their ability to expand their thinking beyond what is put in front of them.

My Project

My students have been learning how to use the sewing machine. They are in an introductory level course of sewing construction. We have started out small, making small square pillows on the sewing machine. They absolutely love using it. They just received their cartoon pillow kits from a company called Start 2 Sew. They love this project because they get to pick their own individual cartoon pillow to sew. The company has a wide variety of project options they can choose from. Getting to choose their own helps spark more interest in the project. My students need polyester fiberfill to fill their cartoon pillow kits.
