I teach a great group of students in the social-emotional/behavioral disabilities program at my school in Boston, MA. We are part of the Boston Public Schools system and many students are on IEPs or are considered English language learners. Many will be from immigrant/refugee families. Students are part of the free lunch program.
My students are amazing.
I bet every teacher says that on this site. It's almost like we're parents and we all think our kids are the best. Mine truly are.
My students come to school every day, knowing it is a safe place to take risks and achieve great things. Some are fighting with emotions that they can't control.
Others are learning how to identify strategies to overcome their disabilities, while we teach them that nothing can hold them back with hard work and determination. Others are just looking for a safe, warm place with a hug and food to put in their bellies.
My Project
Hello friends! I am asking for granola bars and fruit snacks to keep handy in my classroom for students that need a little bit extra in their bellies. These kids are growing - often taller and stronger than myself - and many only eat what the school provides. Some arrive late and some are still hungry. Something as simple as a granola bar can turn a student's day around. By having these in my room, students will not lose learning time - I will be able to satisfy their cravings within my own room and we can continue on with the lesson. I am also asking for air fresheners and cleaning spray to ensure my room is germ-free and the students avoid illness. Thank you!
