My students need snacks! Many students miss breakfast and come to school hungry. We also need excellent prizes in our treasure box to motivate good behavior!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are creative little people with amazing imaginations. They love to sing and dance. They have tons of energy and there's never a dull moment in our classroom.
My students love to create and build.
We make projects as groups and on our own. We share them with one another and they love to show off their work and receive a round of applause.
My students are writers. They share their opinion and tell reasons why you should agree with them. They write about the family members they love. They write about having their own home one day. They illustrate and create beautiful images to go with their writing.
My students are my teachers. They live in a community with an extremely high poverty level. Gangs and violence are an issue, poverty is a fact of life, and several students are homeless. They teach me daily about strength, forgiveness, and resilience.
My Project
I teach kids who live in toxic stress. Many basic needs are not being met which leads to a lack of interest and a lack value in education. If you’re fighting to survive, learning is not a priority. It’s super hard to focus if you’re hungry. Snacks will help the children to focus on school instead of their growling tummy. Plus, everything is better with snacks! I want them to like coming to school! If I have a great treasure box for reward incentives AND I give them daily snacks, they will start to enjoy school. Hopefully that will lay the foundation of a future enjoying school and learning the importance of education in making a better life.
