This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Located in the east side of Indianapolis, this side of town has the odds against them. All of my students come from low-income backgrounds. They are always on the news for negative reasons. My students come to school to escape their home life. My students face many challenges, they come to school to feel safe!
My goal is to change their perspective throughout the year and bring them up to grade level.
I want to give them confidence about improving their skills and ensure they have a future in education. If I can help my students change their views on math, then I can help them succeed in the future.
My Project
My students come in daily striving to do their best. Many of my students ask for snacks and the food along with pencils for class. Many of my students will also ask if they can take it home with them or eat a snack in the morning along with their breakfast. I am asking for items that will fill their bellies and that middle schoolers prefer. Protein bars, Pop-Tarts, meat sticks and fruit snacks will be great for students to bring home to give them energy. My students also love drinks such as juice that they can have in the classroom or take home with them.
A hungry child cannot learn effectively.
Too often we see this as the problem in a child's learning. Help me provide my students the proper fuel they need to not only nourish their bodies, but to nourish their brains as well.
