Help me give my students Full Bellies. All of these items would help all my students- especially the ones who depend on getting their meals from school, feel full and ready to learn!
This year I took on the role of a district-wide Social Worker after being an Intervention Assistant in the district for the last two years. I am so passionate about my new position as our district strives to meet the social-emotional needs of our students.
In the school system where I teach, more than half of our students are low-income.
More often than not, some of my students come to school without even their most basic needs being met. This typically means I need to make sure I have a variety of resources at my fingertips to be able to provide my students with everything they need to be able to learn and succeed. My goal is to set them up to be mindful, independent, contributing members to society.
My Project
Being a PK-12 district school social worker, my office has a revolving door with students who have a variety of needs - social, emotional, academic, and so on. I find that when counseling a student through a difficult situation, I often like to make them feel comfortable by offering a drink and a snack. I currently keep a drawer full of snacks funded by me, but I would like to have snacks in stock for all counselors to use when working with students.
This project would provide my students with granola bars, chips, goldfish, fruit snacks, juice boxes, water, and many more!
All of these items would help all my students- especially the ones who depend on getting their meals from school, feel full and ready to learn! At the end of the day, food makes us focus and a little snack can go a long way!
