Help me give my students snack during the school day to help them grow and reach their full potential in the classroom, and ultimately in their futures.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
The future college-graduating Class of 2032 may only be in 4th grade this year, but they’re busy learning about their positive futures ahead! Our school is Title 1, and our students have not been given a nurturing childhood due to the unfortunate label that Poverty threatens them with daily.
And yet, these children are the most resilient, respectful, adaptable, and responsible in the world!
They inspire me to be stronger; they prove that we CAN make this world a better place; they bring so much passion with them every day. It is contagious. Our students have what it takes to a make a difference in this world BECAUSE of their experiences, and BECAUSE of their relentlessness. They just require a little extra support to get there.
Title 1 funds can help with things such as school supplies, but not basic needs such as food. The countless hours without a bite to eat takes a toll on their brain and body’s development [and our teachers’ wallets]. This grant will provide snacks for all our 4th graders this year. Our students won’t have to focus on their growling tummies, and instead focus their energy on their bright futures ahead of them.
I know that my request is not a "typical" donation request, but in order to grow our students in today's ever-growing rigorous classes, they have to have energy. Students spend most of their day at school, and the hours in between breakfast and lunch are too long to hold students accountable of reaching their potential as their stomachs are growling.
"Kids at risk of hunger may be less equipped to reach their full potential as they engage with the world around them.
Studies show that children from homes that lack consistent access to food are more likely to experience developmental impairments in areas like language, motor skills, and behavior." - Feeding America
Our community and students' families are very supportive, but on the list of donated supplies, snacks fall to the bottom, leaving teachers responsible to provide snacks for their classes.
