My Students

I work in a Title I school where over 60% of our population qualifies for the free and reduce-priced lunch program. We have a very diverse student body in our school of almost 1,000 students. There are a large number of students who struggle with learning and behavioral issues such as Autism, ADD, and ADHD. We have an especially large population of Native American students and I have the privilege of serving as the Native American studies teacher for our school site. I also get to work with our students who need a boost with their reading skills, as a Reading Specialist.

Despite the challenges that my students may be facing in their daily lives, I work with some of the most optimistic and driven kids out there.

The diverse environment that we serve at our school brings with it the challenge of finding the best ways to meet the individual learning styles of all our students. While obtaining the resources needed to ensure that my students achieve their goals may be difficult, the joy on their faces when they experience success is priceless and what inspires my love of teaching!

My Project

I am asking for your help in providing cleaning items and snacks for our Challenge Bowl team. This team consists of students that have chosen to give their own time to learn about Native Americans and their culture.

We would like everyone to be able to participate in practices and on competition day, which means that we need every student healthy and ready to learn!

We are needing the cleaning items to ensure that the students are not spreading germs amongst each other. The snack items are so important in helping these kids focus during practices and not get too run-down. My students that are a part of the Challenge Bowl team put in a full day at school, come to practice, and often have extra-curricular activities and homework to do after they leave practice. These students need some food in their tummies so that they can focus on learning and not on how hungry they are. Thank you for taking the time to consider our project and for your support!
