My students need sensory objects such as vibrating toothbrushes and plush toys, a bounce chair, silencer headphones, hand and lap weights, and fidget objects.
We are all about wiggling and moving in my class! Help me provide my students with the sensory materials needed to allow my students to learn and focus while still gaining sensory input.
I work with students who are on the Autism Spectrum.
My class consists of students who are mostly non-verbal and have strong sensory needs. In my class we focus on learning necessary Adaptive Daily Living Skills and appropriate social skills. The students can exhibit challenging, physical behaviors when upset or frustrated. My students present with severe learning disabilities and sensory integrative dysfunction. I want to provide an enriched learning environment that would contain multi-sensory learning tools to help them cope, learn and adapt to their environment. Research has shown that utilizing various sensory modalities with children that are diagnosed with autism improves their overall academic experience.
My Project
My students need sensory objects such as vibrating toothbrushes and plush toys, a bounce chair, silencer headphones, hand and lap weights, and fidget objects. We would love to be able to utilize sensory devices and equipment for the classroom! This would provide us with longer periods of academic or life skill learning without the need for movement breaks out of the classroom, as some students have difficulty with transitions. The sensory modalities will help organize their nervous systems in order to tolerate increased demands within the classroom setting.
These items will help to create a multi-sensory learning environment which would address the individual needs of each child.
I learn from my students everyday; they are amazing children. They deserve the best possible learning experience. Please help me provide that to them.
