My Students
I teach a NC Pre-K class at a Head Start center. I have 18 children in my class. I serve children from low income families that may not have books at home to read. We read to the children in small and large groups several times a day.
Sometimes the parents do not have the education or ability to read to their children at home, so it is very important for them to get the exposure of reading while in school.
By adding to our classroom library with developmentally appropriate books the children are getting the beginnings of a life long love for reading.
My Project
I am requesting books and materials for my classroom. I believe it is very important to expose young children to the different ways of enjoying stories and books. This will encourage a love of reading that will hopefully be lifelong for the children.
With books and stories, children can experience many things and learn to use their imaginations. Books can take them to other places they might not get to experience otherwise.
Children can learn of many things through books that may spark an interest that may influence them on into adulthood. Children can learn many things when reading books.
