My students need flexible seating to reach different learning and reading styles. Seat cushions, stools and floor cushions are just a few great options for students to read in ways that are comfortable.
My third graders are a diverse and eager group of students who are ready to dive deep into their reading. Their thirst for adventure motivates them to want to explore more books but doing this will take a great deal of reading stamina. They are excited to learn about new genres, new authors, and new characters to connect with.
My goal is to transform my classroom into a place where they can become critical thinkers and readers in the 21st century through their literature experiences in a safe and comfortable environment.

My Project
My students will benefit from flexible seating options during independent work and independent reading time because it will allow them to choose a location in the classroom that best works for them. These materials will help give students ownership of their learning environment. My goal is to make my students comfortable while reading and providing a variety of areas to do so. I have noticed my students to be more excited about building their reading stamina and completing tasks when they can choose an alternative seat around the room. They are more engaged and are less disruptive because they have the freedom to choose an effective working spot. The exercise balls and wobble chairs will also support students who may need to get the wiggles out while working.
