This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Step into our classroom, where we're nurturing the seeds of financial literacy skills. In our class, we equip students with the tools for a financial future. Students regularly interact with age-appropriate math skills such as multiplication and division, laying the foundation for understanding the complexities of money, including topics that cover short and long-term saving and the effects of inflation.

Our students have voiced their desire for snacks, yet find themselves navigating the world of budgeting and saving for the first time.

In response, I’m expanding our classroom store with an array of their favorite snacks and beverages. This venture serves as a dynamic method to teach them the principles of budgeting, saving, and making informed financial decisions.

Introducing a real-world store in our class not only satisfies snack cravings but also serves as a hands-on approach to teach budgeting and responsible spending. Students engage in practical exercises, creating savings plans and learning to navigate the world of percentages to calculate discounts and savings. Students apply and are interviewed for class jobs, and students tinker with their entrepreneurial spirit, where they open their own stores.
