My students need six personal CD players to individually select and listen to audio books during our Daily 5 listening center. I am also requesting a variety of books/CDs for them.

I believe that literacy is pertinent to our children's education. I want my students to develop a love of reading and literacy by exposing them to a wide variety of texts daily.
I have a First Grade class of 20 students; each with their own unique likes and dislikes.
In addition, my students are at varying levels of reading abilities. A classroom goal of mine is to fuel a love of literacy and reading within my students, and this has to be done by gearing books and lessons towards my students' individual interests and abilities.
My Project
My students will utilize these materials during our Daily 5 portion of our day. Currently, all students have to share one audio CD book. If I have six portable CD players with a wide variety of audio books, I will be able to increase a greater variety of genres and choice to my students.

By allowing students choice in their own audio CD, it increases their motivation towards reading. I believe that students having a choice in their audio CD greatly impacts their desire to read and their love of literacy.
My ultimate goal for my students is for them to have a genuine love of learning, more specifically literacy.
I believe reading can open so many doors past a students' current circumstance, expose them to different world views, and give them characters to relate to, among different things. By funding my project for individual CD players, I know my students will increase their desire to want to read and also give them control over their learning by giving them a meaningful choice of books and CDs.
