Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My amazing, Title I school serves a unique, diverse community. Common languages overheard include Tongan, Spanish, Somali, and Burmese dialects. Over three-quarters of our students come from low-income households. With so many English as Second Language learners, our library needs to have the best engaging books.
Students at my school love to read!
They love to learn about the latest weird world record, to take flight in popular fantasy, and to laugh their guts out reading. They deserve the best school library possible!
My Project
My goal as a school librarian is to foster reading engagement. This project helps me succeed by putting the best books in my students' hands. They clamor for the same things: soaring fantasy, laugh-out-loud realistic fiction, creepy sagas, and stories that make their hearts warm. This list of books ticks all of those boxes. Many are time-tested series that kids have loved for the past 20 years. And many are new and exciting treats for them to discover!
With your help I will be able to engage growing readers in new and old stories, hopefully hooking them on reading for life.
Reading is fundamental to academic, professional, and social success. This project encourages students to build their skills in the most enjoyable way possible. These popular books will be the ones students want to take home to complete their 20 minutes of daily reading (encouraged by our school). And just maybe they will love the book enough to keep reading.
