My Students

Do you remember the joy of finding simple machines being used everyday? My students are eager to learn about engineering concepts, but they have not yet mastered the basics of how or where simple machines are used.

My students are 10 year olds who attend a public school in California.

They still have that joy of learning and discovery that inquiry-based lessons can help fuel. They are good team workers who learn eagerly from one another. Inquiry-based learning keeps them excited and interested in finding out more, as well as testing their own ideas.

My Project

By learning the basics through the use of the K'Nex Simple Machines kits, my students will begin to understand the basics of engineering as they discover where and how simple machines are used in their daily lives. By putting together the simple machines, they will learn the connection between the construction of and use of the machines.

With the implementation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) standards as part of career and job readiness, my students will be introduced to what engineering is, how it impacts their daily lives, and what vocations they can aspire to.
