Help me give my students a variety of items to aide in their learning such as a color printer and Polaroid camera for pictures, and a laminator for centers.
As a kindergarten teacher, it is very rare that these 5 year olds get their hands on any type of technology.
I am going from teaching 20 energetic kindergarteners to 28 of them!
I teach at a Title 1, PI school, in a PI district. Our district is in such disarray, and in a financial bind that we had to lay off many teachers and increase class size. Nearly 70% of our student body receive free and reduced lunch. The families lack funds to help with classroom supplies, as do the schools. Such costs are put on us, the teachers. For more than 75% of the up-coming kindergartners, this will be their first school experience. Many families can not afford pre-school.
My Project
My classroom needs access to a color printer to print out color centers for learning things like our alphabet, number recognition, and reading sight words. The personal laminator and lamination sheets will help make these items last for more than one use. I will be able to use these for years to come as well as share with other classes. And the Polaroid camera and film will be used to take pictures of the kids for their end of year scrapbook so they will always remember their kindergarten year. I will use the headphones for a listening center during our center time. With all of these items combined, I feel like my class will be on their way to a better year and they will be better prepared for first grade.
