Help me give my students a healthier alternative to the gas station food they usually go to. Fruit Snacks, Granola Bars, and Water are better choices than Sodas and Takis!
My students are tough. Unfortunately they have to be tough 100% of the time. They're lives are difficult, they rarely receive support outside of school and are in a constant state of stress.
As a trauma informed teacher, I understand the importance of food and water for these kids.
My kiddos are constantly using excess energy combating their stresses and trauma all throughout the school day. It is a basic recommendation to feed and hydrate traumatized students every 2 hours.
We have practiced this process in our advisory classes this year and have seen great success in small numbers throughout the entire school. We started with water and popcorn. We've already seen a positive change when the kids knew they didn't have to worry about being hungry from lunch time until dinner or for some, breakfast the next day.

My Project
The kids need their basic needs and those are not often met outside of our school building. Help me feed and hydrate my kids every two hours. It makes a huge impact on their ability to combat trauma and be successful throughout the day.
The students at George Washington High school depend on us for basic needs by no fault of their own.
They need all the help they can get, all the love they can get and all the food and water we can give them.
Being JUST trauma informed isn't going to cut it. I need your help to be prepared to help my kids work through their struggles by fulfilling a basic need.
