My Project

My fourth graders represent a vibrant mix of personalities, backgrounds, religions, families, and cultures. The joy they bring into the classroom is palpable, and no one loves their school as much as our students do.

The thing that means the most to me in my classroom is honoring student voices.

We have been working to follow the science of reading (and math!) by systematically teaching phonics, reading fluency, and math fact fluency. Through these practices, students have let me know that they are motivated by using fun materials, practicing their work through games, and making sure their bellies are full enough to concentrate. Therefore, that is what this project is designed to provide!

I am asking for timers so that students can work towards their own reading fluency goals. Our project includes books students have requested, as well as pens and markers they can use in their phonics work. We are requesting games to practice our skills, fun items for incentives, and lots of snacks to make sure hunger is not a barrier towards success.
