My Students

I teach in a second grade inner city school in the Bronx, New York where most of my students are growing up in poverty. I teach in an integrated classroom, I have special education students and general education students in my class. My students are so unique that each one of them holds a special place in my heart. They come to school each day ready and excited to learn. Unfortunately, most of students my students come hungry and don’t eat breakfast in the morning. The only meal that most of them will eat is lunch; lunch isn’t until 11:35am. Food fuels the brain and my students come in very hungry and sleepy from not having breakfast. I would love to provide each of my students with the opportunity to have a mid-morning snack, to keep them alert and eager to learn.

My Project

These materials will make a difference in my students learning by providing them energy to keep them going all morning. The snack will be used in the classroom during morning snack time. While teaching reading and math lessons, students will be energized and ready to learn. The outcome of these snacks will go a long way to help keep my students bellies full during the busy morning work schedule. A healthy snack goes a long way for my students, they will concentrate more on learning and less on being hungry.
