Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fourth grade students are energetic and hard working. They love to learn and interact with their environment, using a hands-on approach to learning. This group of students comes from a wide variety of backgrounds ethnically, culturally and financially. The majority of our students are bilingual.
Over 80% of the students in our school receive free and reduced-price lunch and are from low economic backgrounds.
I strive to give them opportunities they might not otherwise experience.
Fourth grade can be a real turning point for learning and developing for many children. They are still "little kids," but they are growing up fast, so it is important to keep them excited and interested in learning.
My Project
Being in a low income school not all students have enough to eat daily. It is important to provide students with snacks and nutrition to help them through the day. I started this program last year and it really helped with students attention and participation when they weren't focusing on hunger.
If providing snacks makes one less thing for my students to worry about, then that is a success!
No child should go hungry throughout the day. It helps in so many ways whether it is just physically or giving them that extra push to be able to learn one more thing.
