Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a rural community where my school provides a family connection. My school site provides community and learning. My students are working hard this year full time in the classroom. My students come to the classroom safely and I am so happy to see them in person.
My students impress me with their eagerness to learn.
They fight through challenges like not having internet access, not having basic school supplies, and not getting enough food to eat.
This year we are working hard on reading and math interventions to end the year on grade level. We will be in small groups doing a lot of targeted learning. This work takes full focus, but we are ready for it.
My students love STEM and STEAM work. We read books about famous scientists and engineers to encourage our interest in science and learn about heroes.
Thank you for your support.
My Project
My students are excited to come to school and learn, but that is hard when they are hungry. Reading and math are hard work, but if you are hungry even more challenging. Many of my students do not have snacks to bring for our two nutrition breaks. These healthy snacks, like Quaker Chewy Granola bars, Fig Newtons, peanut butter and cheese sandwich crackers, will help their hunger and help them conquer their work.
These snacks will be eaten at our morning nutrition break and afternoon snack times to give us fuel for our bodies and minds.
We need snacks to keep our minds focused in the afternoons due to our early lunch time and late school dismissal. After PE and before science and social studies is the perfect time for a snack. Snacks in the afternoon help us stay focused for the end of the day.
I will also use the snacks when my students do not have enough food to eat. Sometimes, my students do not have time to eat breakfast before school, because their bus is late. These snacks will help in these times.
Finally, I asked for a few special treats to give out when we are celebrating reading and math awards.
