This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This is a bright and active group of five and six-year-old children. They love to create and tell stories. They love to read and be read to. They are quickly learning to work together, which is a vital skill in our world. My children work in small groups and independently throughout the day. This helps them learn to focus and improve self control issues.
We grow in all areas by practicing and playing together.
Writing throughout the day in science, social studies, math, and even in art helps us in so many ways. We get noisy, but we learn so much together. We need supplies to grow as readers, writers, and illustrators. We need to show the colors of our ideas. We need ways to be active and help us learn to control our ADHD tendencies. There is so much to learn.
My Project
Kindergarten is complicated. We have many big areas to master, practice and share. In Math, these include comparison of number values, addition and subtraction.
Understanding how to put numbers together and take them apart leads to many other skills.
Multiplication is honestly just repeated addition. If we can show the number bonds of 2, 3 and 5, we can take that to many other areas. Once that idea of fact families is mastered, it will help us in many deeper Math skills.
These Manipulatives will help us grow as mathematicians. They will help us grow as scientists, when we work to sort them.
