This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a title I school where my students rarely travel outside of their neighborhood to expand their world. That is the main reason why I like to provide them with opportunities to explore with real life activities.

My school is organizing a Mad Science Day to engage students in different activities to promote their love and knowledge for Science.

During this day, the teachers will offer four science sessions that will serve four different groups of students from 3rd and 4th grade.

My Project

I would like to bring the Heard Museum's "Mobile Field Investigation" to Finch Mad Science Day. The sessions would expose 3rd and 4th grade students to nature using hands-on activities that would give students context for objectives that will be taught in class. We would also select the session on Adaptations, as this is an area with which our students struggle. The session on Adaptions will also prepare students for the Texas Essential Knowledge Standards (teaching objectives) that are necessary to pass the 5th grade STAAR science test.

The sooner students are exposed to these objectives, the more successful they will be in 5th grade.

These sessions will serve up to 120 students during the four rotations.
