This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are faced with many disadvantages daily but they are extremely hard working. They love working together to create new innovations and solve challenging tasks. They are amazing leaders and each of them proves daily that even 10 year olds can make the world a better place.
Although my students live and go to school in the city, they love learning about cultures and places different than their own and ask insightful questions to make sure they are being truly inclusive to everyone they meet.
My Project
My struggling students will be engaged in reading and want to read with new graphic novels and Kindles. Reading is such an important and wonderful skill to acquire, but for those students who struggle, it can seem like a never ending daunting task. Having graphic novels to chose from will allow even my most struggling will be excited for independent reading time. These books are easy to read and have brightly colored pictures for readers to follow along with. Graphic novels build confidence and encourages students to read more diverse books. Having graphic novels readily available in my classroom library will help jump start life long readers.
Having a Kindle in my classroom will allow my students access to hundreds of books without having to have a physical book.
It will also allow my students to continue their reading journey immediately, without having to wait for me to actually get the book. Whether it's a book by the same author or the next in a series, students will not have to wait, but can keep on reading!
