My Students
WHES is a Title I Elementary School in Hartsville, SC. The school has a fourth and fifth grade population of 200 students. We also have one Trainable Mentally Disabled classroom with five students, and one Educable Mentally Disabled classroom with sixteen students. One hundred percent of our school is on the Free and Reduced Lunch program, and depend on District transportation to and from school. This field trip will benefit the fifth grade and Educable Mentally Disabled students.
My Project
WHES is a Title I School zoned in a low-income area. Many, if not most, of our students do not receive the opportunity to visit places outside of their immediate neighborhood. If not for school field trips, most of our students would not be able to have hands-on experiences of many different things that other students may take for granted. Being able to visit Patriots Point will enhance their learning experiences by being able to touch and see World War II history as they have only read about in their school books, or may have seen in internet videos or photographs.
