My students need the book Judy Moody and Stink: The Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Treasure Hunt for a novel study. We will then attend a live production of the story at a local theater.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are English Language Learners in a Spanish developmental bilingual program, which means that they are exposed to listening and speaking in English, but learn Spanish reading and writing first. These students transition into English reading and writing in second grade. My students attend one of the largest public elementary schools in Wisconsin, with nearly 800 students, 98% of whom qualify for free and reduced lunches. As the second and third grade English as a Second Language Teacher, I help to bridge Spanish and English Literacy.
If you were to enter my classroom, you would hear students speaking primarily in Spanish, but as I enter the room students begin to shift to English!
They are bridging two languages to become future leaders in an ever-changing world and I will do all that I can to support them.
My Project
My students need the book, Judy Moody and Stink: The Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Treasure Hunt for a novel unit. We will use the book to build vocabulary, practice reading strategies, improve communication skills, and most importantly, engage and excite the students while reading!
After the novel unit, my students will see the story come to life at a live theater production of the story!
This exciting culmination activity of the novel unit will allow the students to compare and contrast the performance to the book. Seeing the live theater performance will enhance the novel study and make it more meaningful.
