Our school serves students in grades PK-8 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, a two-way dual language program, and a safe learning environment. As a result, we are consistently one of the top-performing schools in the Dallas ISD. Our goal is to prepare our students for college and career.
Our fifth graders have a love for reading in both Spanish and English.
My classroom is comprised of English language learners and Spanish language learners. They are all hungry for books and the possibility of the getting lost in them.
Literature comes to life when our classroom evolves into Hogwarts as I read aloud the first book of Harry Potter. We need individual copies of the book so students will be able to follow along and then closely reread chapters for assigned literary elements. In years past, my students have monopolized the few copies of The Sorcerer's Stone available at our school library.
Having a class set in both Spanish and English, will in turn allow my English language learners and Spanish language learners to get lost in the world of Hogwarts in their own language.
