I have a group of 22 compassionate, extraordinary, and inquisitive fifth-graders that have various personalities and passions. My classroom consists of future athletes, engineers, educators, architects, and so much more. Their dreams are endless! Although they are all so different, we have created a classroom community where each student feels safe, respected and valued.
My students are eager to learn, curious to explore, and extremely creative.
They enjoy hands-on tasks that engage them in their learning. They are always up for a challenge and love working in groups. Fifth-grade is such a fun and exciting year, as it is their last year in elementary school. These little minds will do big things one day and I cannot wait to see that happen!
My Project
I was hired as a fifth-grade teacher the week before the staff reported back from summer vacation. After accepting the position, I had a little over a week to transform the instrumental music room into a classroom for my 22 eager fifth-grade students. Due to the fact that this room was not originally meant to be a classroom, our room shares a wall with the general music room and is directly across the hall from the gym. Although my students are working hard to ignore the noise distractions, sometimes they need the room a little bit quieter to do their work. The noise-reducing headphones on my list will help students who are struggling to stay focused be able to complete their work to the best of their ability.
Ultimately, my goal as an educator is for my students to feel comfortable in my classroom, and it is then when authentic learning will occur.
Flexible seating has become an extremely popular concept in classrooms nowadays. Due to the layout of my room, when students meet with me in small groups, they are normally sitting rather close to each other in large desk chairs at a horseshoe-shaped table. The wobbly stools will not only give students the chance to spread out, but will also allow them to move around when working in the group setting.
Thank you in advance for considering donating to my classroom. The materials on this list will benefit my students greatly!
