From Have Nots to Haves: New School Year School Supplies
My students need school supplies such as pencils, pencil sharpeners, notebooks and calculators.
This project expired on November 8, 2014.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My goal for my students is that they are prepared to go on to the next grade level. A challenge in getting them prepared is that they don't have the supplies that they need. Having the basics that many take for granted is not available to many of my students.
The school whose students I service is a Title I school which means that it is based in a low- income community in which at least 85% of the schools population is receiving free or reduced lunch.
The students that I service all receive special education services such as hearing impaired services, autistic services, learning disabled services among other accommodations and modifications that ensure their success. What I notice about these students is that when they have the supplies that they need, hay are eager to work and learn.
The "Have not's and the Have: School Supplies" project will benefit the students to start the year completely equipped because they will have what they need. In every subject area they maintain an interactive notebook from the beginning of the school year to the end. In the subject Humanities, they will use spiral notebooks, composition tablets, pencils, pens, colored pencils, calculators, rulers and crayons. They will use these items to take down information, label, make posters on different facets of events in history. In Science they will use the same supplies during various projects such as recreating the solar system, studying the human body, rock exhibitions where they illustrate their findings, and science safety symbols. They will keep track of information for tests, referencing, daily grades, notes and answers to questions. the mechanical pencils and pencil sharpeners will be used in every class as well as the pencil boxes to keep their things organized.
Receiving these supplies will greatly improve my students lives by taking the unnecessary burden of worrying about how they are going to complete their assignments without the necessary supplies.
They will be able to improve their grades, be encouraged to be successful students and put smiles on their faces knowing that someone helped them to become their best.
