This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students in Southwest Detroit experience some of the worst environmental hazards in the city. Many are challenged by lack of resources. Some fear immigration trouble for their families. Despite these obstacles, they are bright and motivated, funny and kind, and deeply committed to improving this neighborhood with hard work

Most who attend college will be the first in their family to have this opportunity.

It is our goal to defy the odds of Detroit's public education system and level the achievement gap with high expectations and rigorous materials.

My Project

We cannot approach biology without hands-on learning. We need basic equipment for our lab. As our school begins to produce more inspired students, we need higher level projects to push interest ahead. The preserved frogs and dissection kits we are requesting for this project will make science real for many students who have not had the opportunity yet to be in a laboratory environment.

The ethnic profile of the medical profession does not match the demographics of Detroit, and our school can help Hispanic young people prepare for health care careers.

The first step is capturing interest, and your support of basic biology lab equipment can help.
