Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Oh, first graders! My students love becoming involved in their own learning. They come to school eager to learn and discover new ideas/concepts. At this age, my students have grasped the concept of school and are now advancing a step further in their education. They are starting to read independently, writing their personal narratives, and memorizing basic math facts. They are becoming more independent yet still have the innocence of a 6-7-year-old. They come to me with a HUGE imagination of which I hope to keep expanding.
My Project
Stations are one way that my students learn in class. However, stations require lots of prep and materials. I am asking for magnetic letters because two of our stations (Word Work and Writing) are foundational and require manipulating with words/letter. A student grasps concepts being taught better when they are able to manipulate it physically first. The connection to the abstract comes after they have had exposure to it. For this reason, magnetic letters would be beneficial to my students so they can create words during their writing and word work stations. In addition, the pens will help with self-check problem cards that go hand to hand with the pen.
