My students are our future scientists! They energetically enter the class, smiling, giving out fist bumps, and they are full of curiosity. They are unstoppable at solving problems, and designing innovative solutions.
They are creative, courageous, and enthusiastic problem solvers.
We need to give them the tools they need today, to strengthen their skills for tomorrow. They love conquering challenges. We need these kinds of innovators in our communities. There isn't a day that goes by where they don't demonstrate that they will make a difference in our world!
My Project
My Life Science students have limitless curiosity and inquiry skills. I encourage them to bring in whatever they are curious about so we can discover more about it.
Having a stereoscope out all year gives them a chance to explore as young scientists every day.
The teachable moment can often start with, " . . . Miss! Look what I found!" For now we use magnifiers to examine whatever they might bring in. Using a stereoscope broadens their view to the microscopic world. It also enhances their drive to be the one who brought in the "sickest specimen ever!" I want them to be as confident using a stereoscope as a pen. I want my students to know that any day is a great day to examine their discoveries with a microscope.
Students learn more when they make observations. I first teach my students how to draw the field of view (what you see while looking through the microscope), then whatever they are using the scope for, the also draw and color as accurately as possible. This includes calculating the total magnification and scientifically drawing and coloring their observations.
