Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

This year I have the pleasure of teaching a class of 2nd graders. We are a school in a low income urban area serving students from K-5, who are predominantly African American.

My students are excited to learn and I am excited to teach them.

However, many of my students are struggling readers. With such a wide range of academic levels we need to use various methods to provide support. We will spend this year growing as individuals socially and academically.

My Project

The 2nd grade teachers and the students look forward to this project every year and are excited for the opportunity to participate this year. This project will allow our students to witness the awesome transformation of a caterpillar to a butterfly.

These kits will be a wonderful addition to the life cycle science unit!

We study the life cycle of the butterfly and seeing it in real life is something the students will never forget. Being able to see each stage and the transformation with our own eyes makes learning real for students. Our students are excited every day during this project. They become motivated to do independent research and share what they learned with the others.
