Mrs. Riley from Jonesboro AR is requesting musical instruments through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need Remo Lid Drumheads to help turn donated 5 gallon buckets into deep-sounding drums for our World Music Drumming unit.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are approximately 565 sweet and spunky 1st-6th grade students who push me every day to be a better music teacher.
I teach at an elementary school in Arkansas that teaches students about citizenship and community by modeling a "micro society," where students earn school currency, work jobs, create products, and run for school office.
Students make purchases and pay "rent" and "taxes" using their school currency!
While the majority of my students come from low-income families, they are rich in enthusiasm and are always eager to share their voices, their dance moves, and all the good things that are happening in their lives. I strive to share my enthusiasm for music with them and honor their unique voices.
Part of our daily school pledge:
"I am a leader of tomorrow, respectful, safe, and ready. Listen to my voice - I have a choice!"
I chose the Remo Rhythm Lids because they will snap on to 5-gallon buckets that were previously donated to my school for a bucket drumming unit. They are versatile, and can be used as hand drums, frame drums, or played with drumsticks.
These drum lids will help my student access the World Music Drumming curriculum by Will Schmid, which supports not only musical standards related to rhythm and improvisation, but also promotes cross-cultural competency and knowledge of world geography.
My students love to move and show off the different rhythms they can create. Rhythm lids will help make music class more exciting for my students!
