This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Kindergarten is the best! As a teacher you get to see an incredible amount of growth (physical, mental, social and emotional) from September to June. The students in my class are from a low socio-economic area and come from many cultures. Many of the parents are working more than one job to make ends meet and our students are in before and after school care. They often come to school with little to no letter knowledge, number, shape or color recognition.
All those barriers aside, the students do come to school with a positive attitude and a desire to learn!
Our school strives to provide learning opportunities in a variety of formats (visual, auditory, kinesthetic).
My Project
Indoor recess in the winter can become very monotonous with the same few choices. We will use these games to enhance our learning while increasing enjoyment. Through the use of these games, my students will have opportunities to learn colors, shapes, numbers and letters.
While playing games the students will also learn life skills such as turn taking, asking questions, sharing, working with a team, being a gracious winner and accepting disappointment as a learning opportunity.
Too often our students arrive without these basic life skills, which makes the school setting difficult and frustrating. No child should feel that way while learning.
