Help us move into the 21st century with music technology! Students in our band need an iPad in order to practice with SmartMusic, compose their own music, and take music theory lessons.
The students in our HS band are extremely dedicated and love improving their talents and skills.
They are all eager to learn as much about music as possible and this technology would give them the opportunity. These students audition for county and region band and are always taking the time to come for extra help or take extra lessons. The talent is very high and they need the opportunity to grow these abilities and use technology to drive their passion.
My Project
By getting an iPad, band students would be able to use SmartMusic which is an online application which puts their music on the screen and allows the students to play along with it. The program then critiques the performance and helps them learn the rhythms and notes correctly. Without formal band lessons, this is the only way that I can analyze their skills. Students will also be taking on more leadership roles as our program grows and they will be learning how to use spreadsheets and other programs to help the band stay organized and move into the 21st century. We will also be performing in Washington, D.C. in April and the students will be updating a travel blog. The iPad will allow this to happen in a simple format. The amount of programs available for iPad's are staggering and students will explore all of these to learn rhythms, notes, compose their own music, learn about instruments, and much more.
These students are extremely dedicated to our program and without any computers for them to use in the band department, their growth is held back by this lack of technology.
