This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

RUPHS is a small charter high school in Southwest Santa Rosa, California. The school was created in 2004 to support students as they work toward admission to 4-year universities. We have roughly 450 phenomenal students in grades 9 - 12, and we are proud to be an all-AVID school. AVID is a nationally recognized program to help historically underrepresented students enter and succeed at mainstream universities in the United States. The AVID acronym stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.

My Project

This year we are piloting a program to pair our senior and freshman students to discuss grades, extra-curriculars, and the transition to high school.

Students have been emailing and meeting one another in person throughout the school year, and for the culmination of the year we are having an outing to a nearby park for a celebration.

Mentor/mentee pairs will be spending the morning together playing team building games and doing a joint art project.

Our school will provide fresh fruit and veggies for all, but students need water and a nutritious snack with protein.
