Freshman Physics Students Need Calculators!

My students need 60 scientific calculators to help them solve physics problems.

  • $525 goal

Hooray! This project is fully funded

Hooray! This project is fully funded

I am a first year high school teacher in a high-need school. The vast majority of my students deal with poverty, violence, crime, and dysfunctional family situations in their everyday lives.

With all the problems my students face, they've fallen behind in developing their basic skills, especially in math. In order to teach physics concepts, so far I've also had to teach multiplication and division by 10, how to square a number, and how to convert decimals to percentages. Along with these skills, I also need to teach my students how to use calculators. Unfortunately, only a handful of my students have their own calculators, and the science department does not have its own supply.

In order to help my students succeed in physics class and start off on the right track for high school science, I'd like to purchase a scientific calculator for each of my 60 students. This way they can learn to use them properly in my class and keep them for the rest of their science and math classes.

By helping to fund this project, you will aid in increasing math and science skills, lowering the failure rate, and better preparing students to meet the requirements for college admission.
