My Students

My students make up a huge piece of my heart and have to be some of the best students on the planet! We live in a rural part of Arkansas and our school is quite small.

But where we are small in size, we make up in spirit!

My students come from everyday, hard-working families, and almost 60% qualify for free and reduced lunch. They know the value of working hard and I couldn't ask for better kids to spend my days with.

They deserve all the best the world has to offer; my hope is that I can always instill this in my students while also offering them the best education and lasting life lessons to prepare them for the world outside of my four walls.

My Project

I'm a teacher who doesn't feel that homework in today's world is necessary nor beneficial. I work my students very hard in the classroom in order to give them as little to do outside of the classroom. My one request to my students as their "homework" is to read outside of class.

I once heard at a conference, "We don’t read simply to discover who other people are; we read to discover who WE are." It is imperative to me that my students are reading books of their interest to grow themselves and discover who they truly are, as well as discovering the beauty in picking up a book & diving in.

It has become increasingly harder to encourage reading as the titles in my classroom library have grown older and many of my students have read several of the titles. Brand new books are not something that all of my students can easily come by so I feel it is my duty to work on freshening up our classroom library with up-to-date young adult titles that will spark their interest all over again in reading!
