My third-grade students learn in a Title I school near a military base. Many of our students have experienced some type of family transition (single parent home, blended family, divorce/separation, low income, etc). The majority of my school receives a free or reduced-price lunch. The students at my school are all hard workers. They come to school every day, ready to learn.
My third-grade students are a very active bunch and are capable of doing amazing things this year.
My students set goals for themselves and they achieve them. They are smart, kind, and caring. They work hard as individuals and come together as a team.
My students are eager to learn and love whole group activities that allow them to listen to stories, cooperate with peers and attend to technology lessons. Our community has a high population of military families. We have a supportive community and administration, however, there are fewer funds for classroom resources.
My Project
Many of our students lost everything during Hurricane Florence, including basic needs such as tissues and cleaning supplies. Our community and families are rebuilding and trying to return to some sense of normalcy. We are getting into flu and cold season and it would be great to have some extra Lysol wipes and tissues handy. My students always have colds, sniffles, runny noses, and little bugs that just won't go away.
Working while feeling congested or sick is never fun!
Our classroom is also requesting a vacuum to help keep the room tidy to prevent bugs from sneaking into our classroom. Each day, the students are provided with a snack. Sometimes these snacks get a little messy, even though we have a wonderful custodial team at our school, it's nice to keep the room looking organized and clean throughout the entire day.
