We are an inner- city high school that continues to go through budget cuts, recently requiring our 3 area high schools to be combined into 1 deteriorating building. I am an emotional support, special education teacher trying my best to help my kids through this transition while dealing with their already difficult living situations. My students deal with varying emotional disabilities that hinder their ability to self-regulate, de-escalate and remain in control of their actions in a rational manner. Most have dealt with disheartening personal issues in their short lives that have taught them that to survive they must react in these ways. In getting to know them and their stories, I truly believe each and every one can be reached with the proper tools and connections. I believe you cannot educate the child without first educating the heart.
My Project
This year I will be teaching in a classroom that has no windows or air vents / air conditioning to circulate or clean the air in the classroom. During the winter months, air circulation is not an issue because of the heaters. However, during August, September, May and June, the classroom temperatures can reach 95*-100*!
Considering my students already have been diagnosed with emotional disabilities, I am concerned the lack of fresh air and heat will escalate their behaviors.
The product requested is both an evaporative air cooler and air filter/ circulator. Schools are not governed by OSHA standards and I worry about the air quality for my students. Thank you for considering helping our future.
