Fresh Air, Fresh Ideas; Extending the Classroom Outdoors!
My students need more space! With 34 students in a classroom, an outdoor extension of our flexible learning spaces is exciting, and necessary. Tree benches, hammocks and outdoor working areas will increase enthusiasm and productivity!

I try to instill the essence of this quote into the minds of my students each year.
I feel I need to give them every opportunity to show that they CAN!
My students are so incredible! They are a diverse group represented by many ethnicities and languages. They love learning and are preparing to make the world a better place. They are team players who understand that teamwork leads to success and that minds working together bring about change, and change is what drives growth. They are students who see mistakes as an avenue to learning and know that with each mistake, a new lesson is learned. They are hard working and value education. They are growing each day to become the future of America. I strive to give them every opportunity to be prepared for the competitive world out there!
My Project
Does fresh air lead to fresh thought? That’s what more and more U.S. companies are betting on as they move their workers and management teams to the great outdoors. I would love to provide an inviting outdoor area for my 5th graders!
Nature is best as it lowers stress levels and promotes creativity.
Findings from a new study show that learning outdoors is not just a fun, novel experience for kids, but also helps them focus once they return to the classroom, concluding that to be satisfied and productive at school, you need more than the four walls of an indoor classroom. You need changes in air, temperature, or scenery. You need to have meaningful stimulation that interrupts the routine classroom environment, and you need the access, and the ability, to interact with the outside world. A balance!
Whether it be choosing to discuss alternate solutions to a math problem at a 44 inch picnic table, shaded under a 9 foot umbrella, escaping into a book on macrame swing chair hanging from a tree, engaging in deep conversation, while taking notes on their clipboards in two Lakeland Mills Cedar Log Lounge chairs, collaborating and creating projects on a sturdy outdoor patio table, or simply gazing at the sky, watching birds in flight, or observing ants build a hill, my students and their educational opportunities will be enhanced by this outdoor learning environment. It is exactly what is needed to rejuvenate and inspire, and just what my students deserve to give them every opportunity to succeed.
