This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are eager and inquisitive, and, like all middle school students, they have a flair for drama! They love a good story, but they lack the confidence and encouragement to read books.
Libraries are supposed to be the heart of the school, and we need open-heart surgery!
Our media center is outdated, and we need to transform it into a space where students and teachers are excited to come, collaborate, and learn!
I am a new media coordinator in a Title I school. In our test-driven society, reading for pleasure often takes the back burner. My goal is to update our media center in such a way as to make children want to come in and read because reading is the number one way to improve test scores!
My Project
Being the new kid in school is hard- especially in middle school. Imagine that you're the new kid, and you don't speak the language very well. My school has many students for whom English is not their first language, and every year, there are students who enter our school and speak very little English.
The media center is the center of the school's community, and it needs to be welcoming for all students.
My school library needs to have a variety of novels written in French, Spanish, and Arabic so that these students can also feel welcomed and accepted. For some students, these novels might be the only link to their past within the school walls.
