Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, hard-working and curious. They make interesting observations about the world around them and connections between my class and other subjects. They don't hesitate to point out errors in thinking, whether it's a bias in an article, or a typo on a quiz. I love that they take my ideas and make them their own. For example, in French 4 we study technological innovations and imagine robots of the future (some of which already exist!). Students have designed everything from microscopic robots used in surgery to humanoid robots that help you get ready for prom! I know that I will always be delighted from the personal touch that my students bring to any creative project.
My Project
My students have been working with out of date textbooks for too long. Scholastic magazine offers a variety of level-specific subscriptions that are geared toward teenagers and that use language that they can understand at each level of French. The best part is - we'll get 5 issues a year, and they feature a variety of current events and topics relevant to teens. It will open up the world of French to actual, modern French, not limit them to the "classroom" French found in their textbooks. I personally can't wait to have access to all the online resources that augment these magazines - videos, audio recordings and more! Just a one year subscriptions will help fill my teacher toolbox for years to come.
