My students need books in our classroom library that are reflective of their interests, while also helping their language skills or knowledge of French culture.
My students are passionate inquirers. We can spend most of our class time together asking, answering, debating, and researching questions. These students are motivated and in a constant search for more exposure to language study.
Our school is an International Baccalaureate school, focused on language learning as a major tool for students to be global citizens.
This school has a great sense of community. Students are a tight-knit group as they are usually together from kindergarten on. They motivate, encourage, and support each other in a unique way.
My Project
These books will be kept in our classroom library. The titles listed are based on a student interest survey, while staying within in the content area.
Through the books provided students will be able to explore various aspects of the French language and culture.
Some novels are books students have already read, which allows them to have prior knowledge when reading it in French. Others are in English, but are about French historical figures or events. For example, students have expressed interest in exploring the Harry Potter books in French as well as the Golden Compass series (Les Royaumes du Nord). In addition to fiction, I chose to include some of the "Who was...?" series on various French people, including: Joan of Arc, Claude Monet, and Marie Curie.
