I am a Pre-Kindergarten teacher in an equity plus school. My school is deemed equity plus due to 81% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch. Also, 20% of our students speak English as a second language and 18% are labeled exceptional children. All of my students are deemed at risk academically. Five of them do not speak any English at all. My students do not have the advantages that most preschoolers have. They do not have the opportunity to go to the park or have a swing set in their back yards (if they have a backyard). I would love to give my students the same opportunity that most children have, to be able to slide down a slide and climb through tunnels. My students are lacking in large motor skills and would greatly benefit from an outdoor play center. A play center would give them the physical play they need to enhance their large muscle coordination. It would enable them to climb, crawl, slide and take turns. This play center would not only be used by all the Pre-K children but also all of the students in grades kindergarten through second grade. We do not have the resources at our school to fund such a large, but well needed project. I was informed that if I am lucky enough to get this proposal funded, the school system would install it for me and supply the needed safety surface. I have chosen a play center that meets my students' needs the most. I have checked to make sure the play center I have chosen meets all the safety standards. The play center I have in mind is called the Bedrock 2. It consists of four slides, one large tunnel and one small tunnel, a climbing apparatus and educational panels. This play center can actually function as another classroom. Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal. I know if you help fund my proposal you will not only be helping my students develop the skills they need to grow physically, but you will also help them to build some wonderful memories of their early days at school. Thank you again.
