Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am requesting a class set (30 copies) of the classic compilation of children's stories, poems, and songs, "Free to Be... You and Me" for my second graders. This book was compiled in the 1970s by Marlo Thomas, and all of the songs and stories relate in some way to freedom, diversity, and being yourself. There are magnificent lessons to be learned from this book, and my children have fallen in love with the songs and poems. I have only one copy of the book that I have shared with the class. We studied the theme of personal freedom and expression in our poetry unit, and even gave a performance of some of the songs from the book. My children have learned so much from the book already, I would love for them each to have their own copy, so they can continue learning and growing. I know they would be truly ecstatic, and it would be something they will always keep and treasure because of its positive and meaningful influence. Many of my students own very few books, so to receive such a gift would be even more meaningful for them. Thank you in advance for making a huge difference in my students' lives!
